- Keypad beeps but gate doesn’t move. The entry device is receiving power and accepting the code, but the relay that signals the gate operator has failed. On Linear systems this is often a soldered relay on the main board, not a separate replaceable component.

DIY or Call Us?
Here’s where a homeowner can safely look and where the risk starts. You can check the power supply voltage with a multimeter at the junction box - Linear keypads want 12VDC or 24VAC depending on model, and a reading more than 10% off spec points to the transformer, not the keypad. You can also verify that the gate operator itself opens with the remote, isolating whether the problem is the access device or the operator.
What we don’t recommend: opening the keypad housing to test board-level components, running new low-voltage cable through existing conduit (easy to damage the pull and leave yourself with no path), or attempting to program a Linear telephone entry without the installer manual - the DIP switch settings for gate type, strike time, and relay configuration are not intuitive, and a misconfigured unit can damage the gate operator’s control board. Low-voltage work still carries shock risk in wet conditions, and incorrectly wired access control can leave your gate unlocked or unresponsive during an emergency.
